Sudden Spinnerets

InstantGreen mana

The untap clause is the tell. A one-mana pump granting +1/+3 and reach is already a serviceable defensive trick, tuned to blank an incoming blow rather than push damage: the tall +3 toughness saves the creature, the +1 power is an afterthought. But the untap turns it into something a plain trick cannot be. Cast it on a tapped attacker after you have swung and you keep that creature standing to block on the crackback, having declared the assault and re-armed for defense in a single breath. That is the resource math the card runs on: it manufactures a body that got to act twice, and it recoups the tempo you spent committing to combat. The reach counter is the piece that outlasts the turn, permanently answering fliers on a creature that had no business reaching them, so the effect leaves a footprint long after the +1/+3 fades. This is a trick built around untap timing rather than a bluff; it does not threaten a surprise kill, it converts one creature into two turns of relevance. That reframing (a pump spell that also refunds the cost of tapping out for the attack) is the design worth studying, well past the modest stat line it prints.
