A symmetrical effect with a wildly asymmetrical payoff, and a masterclass in how a single bounce clause rewrites the resource economy of a game. The headline gift (an extra land per turn for everyone) reads generous, but the real machinery is the second line: every land returns to hand the instant it taps for mana, which converts the battlefield's land count into a per-turn replay loop rather than a standing total. The manabase stops being an accumulating resource and becomes a recurring transaction, and the extra-land allowance exists precisely to keep that transaction from grinding you to a halt. The design that makes it sing is anything that triggers on lands entering or leaving: landfall payoffs, replay-on-entry effects, and most famously any land that produces more than one mana, since you can replay it for free (a land drop costs no mana, only a slot from your per-turn allowance) and tap it again for a net surplus each cycle. It punishes the durdling deck that taps out four lands for a big spell, since those four lands are now in hand instead of untapping next turn, and it rewards the deck built to abuse the replay. The bounce is the structural pressure valve: it caps how much mana anyone can stockpile across turns and forces the game to be played one land-drop at a time. Few cards from this era so completely reframe a fundamental resource without ever reaching for a keyword to do it.
