Stonewood Invocation
What split second buys here is uninterruptibility, and that turns a pump spell into a hard-locked answer to targeted removal. The +5/+5 shifts combat math substantially, but the operative clause is the pairing of shroud with a window in which nobody can cast spells or activate non-mana abilities: cast it on your attacker in response to a kill spell, and not only does the buff resolve, the shroud strips the original removal of a legal target before its controller gets another chance to act. Most green protection lives at instant speed and can be answered at instant speed in turn: a hexproof granter still sits on the stack where it can be countered or rendered moot, a regeneration shield gets routed around by a sacrifice or exile effect. Stonewood Invocation slams the door on the entire stack while it resolves, so there is no holding priority, no instant-speed rebuttal, no flicker, no non-mana-ability sacrifice-in-response. The cost of that guarantee is rate and timing: four mana for a single turn of stats is steep when you have nothing worth defending, and the shroud cuts both ways, since once it resolves your own creature is also off-limits to your follow-up tricks, locking out any chained pump or your own protection effects. It reads as a combat enabler and functions as a counterspell aimed backward, protecting the thing already in play rather than stopping the thing coming at it.
