Stone Drake

Creature — Drake3 generic manaBlue manaBlack mana

The two modes read like two different design philosophies bolted onto one flying body, and the split is the whole personality. Distract is the tempo-neutral floor: tap a land, replace the card, and take the flexibility no matter how the turn played out. Enthrall is the payoff for having done work first, because it counts spells already cast this turn. It rewards the storm-adjacent sequence where you chain cheap spells before dropping the Drake, and its floor is a single discard, since the Drake itself is a spell cast this turn (cast it into an empty turn and the count is one, not zero). That conditional scaling is the interesting part. Most modal enters-the-battlefield creatures hand you two effects that are both live in a vacuum; this one pairs a safe cantrip default with a mode whose ceiling is entirely a function of what preceded it. Because the choice is locked in when the trigger goes on the stack, the decision is really a sequencing decision made a beat earlier: hold the Drake as the capstone of a busy turn to fatten Enthrall, or lead with it and take the guaranteed card when nothing else lined up. Reflexive play leaves value on the table here; the reward goes to the player who has already decided, before committing the creature, which of the two spells they want it to have been.
