Blue has always drawn cards without paying life or pitching from hand: that much is its birthright. What blue historically pays for is selection. Straight draw comes cheap, but choosing what you draw usually costs a scry attached to a smaller yield, or a card filtered one at a time, or an instant-speed cantrip that trades bulk for flexibility. Digging five deep and keeping two of them collapses that trade: it is a two-for-one and a filter in the same cast, with no downside clause to price it back down. The design lever here isn't a cost but a shape. You see five, you keep exactly two, and the other three go to the bottom rather than the graveyard, so it feeds nothing and reveals nothing to the opponent. That last detail does more than it reads. Because the leftovers bottom rather than mill, the card stays pure filtering-plus-advantage, useless as a graveyard enabler, which anchors it in fair decks chasing the smoothest possible hand rather than combo decks that want their tools in the yard. The sorcery-speed limit is the only real leash: no end-step draw, no reactive hold that an instant-speed cantrip gets to make. What it gives up in timing it returns in raw yield. Two chosen cards off the top five is the sort of consistency engine control and midrange used to build around fragile permanents or split across two spells; here it arrives in one unconditional line.
