Stick, Fearless Mentor
Most red damage triggers watch for the hit you land somewhere else; this one waits for the burn to come home to your own face. The wording matters more than it looks: the trigger fires on a source you control dealing damage to you, which pointedly excludes life payment. Shocklands, painful fetches, and Phyrexian mana all spend life without dealing damage, so none of them feed it. What qualifies is red aiming at itself: a Fireblast alternate cost, your own sweeper catching your board and your dome, a burn spell pointed at your head to launder a card into the exile zone. Each qualifying hit exiles the top card and gives you until the end of your next turn to spend it. The single-trigger-per-turn clause is doing real governance here, capping the conversion at one card no matter how many self-inflicted pings you can stack, so the engine rewards steady pressure across turns rather than a one-turn pain buffet. First strike on a 2/1 keeps it relevant in combat, but note the asymmetry: blocker damage falls on the creature, never on you, so attacking is a clock and not a way to prime the ability. The whole card lives on the tension between wanting to be hurt on your own schedule and not wanting to be dead, and it pays that risk out in the resource red is worst at hoarding: cards.
