Steadfast Sentry
A defensive body that pays out on offense, built for the counters-matter white decks that never quite consolidate into a top archetype. The vigilance lets it swing without dropping its guard, but the real design idea is in the death trigger: when it dies, it deposits a single +1/+1 counter on a creature you keep, so the loss of the 3/2 is partly recouped as permanent growth elsewhere. That quietly reprices the chump block. Trading it in combat or feeding it to a sacrifice effect no longer means walking away empty-handed; you exchange the body for a modest, lasting buff wherever it does the most work, whether that is nudging an evasive attacker into lethal range or hardening a blocker that has to hold a line. The counter's flexibility is the whole appeal: it goes to target, not to a fixed recipient, which keeps the card useful across a board that has shifted since it entered. As common-rarity glue for an aggro-leaning white counters shell, it earns its slot by turning the inevitable death of a cheap creature into a small downstream gain: a role-player that supports a plan rather than launching one.
