Starting Column
A mana rock with a delayed second gear built into it. The floor is a colorless three-drop that taps for any color: fine fixing, nothing more. The ceiling only unlocks once your speed reaches its cap, and the speed gain is tied to bloodletting rather than to lands or turns. Each of your turns advances the counter by one, but only if an opponent's life total has already dipped that turn, and the trigger keys off life loss rather than combat damage specifically: a drain effect, an edict that clips a total, a Blood Artist ping all move the needle the same as an attack does. The artifact quietly demands that the rest of your deck already be applying the pressure; it does not generate that pressure itself. Reach the top and the rock cashes itself in, sacrificing to draw two and discard one, converting a spent mana source into a card refill at exactly the point where the ramp has gone stale. That sequencing is what the card is engineered around: it accelerates you into the early aggression that feeds the speed counter, then trades its own body away for cards once the mana is redundant. The tension is that both halves want opposite game states. The fixing wants to come down early into an open board; the sacrifice payoff wants a game already tilting against your opponent. A mana source first and a graveyard-bound cantrip second, with the transition gated behind a clock you build around it rather than into it.
