Starstorm
The instant-speed scaling sweeper is rarer than its sorcery cousins for a reason: red has always paid a premium for permission-style flexibility, and this design collects that premium twice. First in color intensity (the double-red commitment locks it out of splashing decks), and again in the way X eats your whole turn while leaving mana untapped for nothing else. What you buy with that price is the right to wipe the board on the opponent's turn, after they overextend into a combat or commit a fresh threat, which a sorcery-speed sweeper cannot do. Cycling spares the card from rotting in hand against an empty board: pay three, ditch it, replace it. A mass-removal effect with no targets is dead weight, but this one always offers a second use, exactly the design tension cycling was built to resolve. The effect is symmetrical, so it punishes your own creatures as readily as theirs, pushing it toward control shells that field few bodies of their own or toward instant-speed responses that set X high enough to clear an opposing swarm in one motion. This sweeper rewards holding up mana and waiting rather than resetting the board on schedule, a different discipline than the sorcery-speed wraths ask of you.
