Starke

Vanguard

The effect is a steady filtering engine: a soft, optional draw-two-bottom-one that smooths your draws every turn without ever changing your card count. It is the same loot-and-tuck logic that later showed up on repeatable filtering bodies, except attached to nothing you have to protect on the battlefield and active from the opening turn. The catch is that this text never sat in a sixty-card deck. As a Vanguard avatar, it lived beside your library as a persistent modifier for the whole game, an experiment from the early days of organized play when the studio was testing how to bolt a permanent passive ability onto a player rather than onto a permanent. That framing is exactly why this kind of effect is dangerous: free, recurring selection with no mana investment never stops paying out, and a body you might otherwise tax or kill is here baked into your starting position. The friction that keeps it honest is the mandatory tuck, which trades raw quantity for quality rather than handing you an extra card. The format never became a fixture, but its avatars remain a fascinating fossil of a moment when "what if the player itself had an ability" was a live design question.

At the beginning of your draw step, you may draw an additional card. If you do, put a card from your hand on the bottom of your library.
