Squirrel Wrangler

Creature — Human Druid2 generic manaGreen manaGreen mana

Both abilities feed off the same fuel line: pay mana, sacrifice a land, and either widen your board with two squirrels or pump the squirrels you already have. That land sacrifice is what keeps the rate honest. Spend your mana base for tokens and you erode the resource the abilities themselves cost, so every activation walks you toward a hand-clogging endgame: a wide squirrel army and nothing left to develop next. It is a self-cannibalizing engine, where each use makes the following turn poorer. The design sits squarely in an era preoccupied with tax-and-sacrifice tension, where payoffs arrived attached to a price you would rather not pay, and this is a clean statement of that philosophy. The two abilities do combine into a genuine threat, since a fresh batch of tokens can be pumped the same turn, flipping a stalled board into lethal once enough lands have been fed into the cause. The trouble is that committing that many lands is rarely something a green deck can sustain while also casting anything else. What lingers about it is its place in a lineage: the awkward early ancestor of the squirrel-token theme that later sets would refine into something far better supported, a seed of an archetype planted when every payoff still came with a tax attached.
