Coin flips were the recurring gag of this era, and this is the most punishing version of the joke: a geometric gamble where the reward scales with how greedy you are and the failure is total. Name a number, then flip until you either hit it or lose, and every single flip has to come up your way to draw anything at all. Two flips dreaming of four cards already demands a quarter-shot, since both have to land; reach for ten flips chasing twenty cards and you are paying three mana for something that will almost never resolve into a single draw. The expected value math is brutal precisely because the all-or-nothing clause means one bad flip erases the entire attempt, with no partial credit for the flips that landed. That is the design tension built in on purpose: the card hands you a dial and lets your own optimism set the strike price. Where most draw spells fix the payout and the cost, this one makes variance the entire payload, written for players who would rather lose spectacularly than draw a measured two. Skill enters only at the moment you choose the number, and the correct answer is almost always smaller than the fantasy. Less a draw spell than a wager with a payout table, it lets the house edge grow with every flip you commit to.
