Spiteful Returned

The reach is the whole point. A 1/1 for two mana that drips two life off the defending player every time it swings is a slow clock you can stick on the board cheaply and ignore; bestow turns that same clock into an aura that rides your best attacker and keeps the life loss coming long after a fragile body would have traded away. That two-stage existence is the design: cast it early as a creature for cheap tempo, and if it dies in combat you have spent two mana for a couple of swings; cast it later for its bestow cost on a flier or a trampler, and the +1/+1 plus the on-attack trigger piles pressure onto a threat the opponent was already struggling to block. The aura even outlives the host: when the enchanted creature dies, it reverts to a 1/1 on the battlefield, ready to attack on its own. Bestow is an alternative casting cost paid only as you cast the card, though, so once it becomes a creature again it stays a creature; you cannot peel it off and reattach it. The most pointed detail is the trigger condition: the life loss keys off the attack declaration, not combat damage, so it pays whether the swing connects, gets chumped, or gets blocked clean. Against a defensive opponent that turns every attack step into two life off the top regardless of what stands in front of it, which is exactly the grind black aggro wants when the board stalls.
