Spectacle Mage

Creature — Bird Shaman1 generic manaBlue manaRed mana

Cost reduction on expensive spells has a chronic weakness in blue-red: the discount often does nothing when you draw it late in the game, sitting dead in hand while you scramble for pressure. Stapling the reduction to a flying body answers that directly. A 2/2 with evasion applies a clock and trades in the air, so the spell-cost engine becomes upside rather than a wasted slot. The threshold is the part worth reading closely: the reduction only touches instants and sorceries with mana value 5 or greater, a deliberately narrow gate. This is not a Goblin Electromancer shaving a mana off every burn spell and cantrip; it is built to reward decks whose top end is a haymaker (a big sweeper, a splashy finisher, an X-spell resolving one point richer). By ignoring the cheap end of the curve entirely, the design sidesteps the storm-engine and free-spell chaining that made blanket reducers a recurring headache, and instead points the discount squarely at the payoff a spell-heavy control shell wants to reach sooner. It is a specialist's accelerant carried on a general-purpose body, a cleaner split than most cost reducers manage.
