The counters-matter payoff wearing a body that starts its own engine. Most "modified creature" reward pieces sit passively and wait for you to assemble a modified board around them; this one enters, drops a counter, and immediately turns at least one attacker into a card-drawing threat, so the enters trigger and the combat trigger feed each other from the moment it resolves. Leaving the counter's destination open gives the design its texture: land it on an evasive creature and the draw engine comes online through unblocked damage; land it on a body already carrying an Aura or Equipment and you stack a modification onto something the payoff already counts. Vigilance is what lets the 4/4 join the assault without conceding the crackback: it swings for its own draw trigger and stays untapped to hold the fort, so the card contributes to the offense and the defense in the same turn rather than choosing between them. The breadth of what qualifies as modified is what lifts it above an ordinary Azorius value creature: the reminder text folds counters, Auras, and Equipment into one bucket, so the trigger fires across three deckbuilding shells that usually live apart. That single clause rewards +1/+1 counter decks, Voltron-style Aura and Equipment decks, and any hybrid of the two, which is unusually wide coverage for a five-mana card that also builds part of its own board on arrival.
