Spare from Evil

Instant1 generic manaWhite mana

Keying the protection clause to a creature type instead of a color is what makes this a fiction-first design: on a world where the monsters are werewolves, vampires, zombies, and spirits and the survivors are people, "protection from non-Human creatures" is a literal translation of "protection from the things trying to kill you." Mechanically it resolves into a one-sided combat blowout against any board where the aggressor is not Human: your team cannot be blocked by those creatures, cannot be blocked into by them, takes no combat or noncombat damage from them, and cannot be targeted by their abilities, all at instant speed for 1 generic manaWhite mana. The same clause that empowers it caps it: against a deck full of Human creatures, the card does nothing, so its worth lives or dies on what is on the other side of the table. That dependence on a tribal read rather than a color read marks it apart from generic white fogs and protection tricks; it asks you to know your opponent's creature types, not just their colors. The effect rewards a board state it cannot manufacture on its own, which keeps a cheap, blanket-protection instant from being universally backbreaking.
