Souls of the Faultless

A wall that punishes the act of hitting it. The defensive convention is that a high-toughness blocker simply absorbs damage and asks the attacker to find another route; this one converts the act of breaking through into a two-way swing, draining life equal to whatever connects and handing that same total back to you. The trigger keys off combat damage dealt to it, which means it fires when you block an attacker, turning every point that lands into both lifegain for you and an equal life loss for the attacking player. Most lifegain on a body is incidental, a number that pads your total while the game happens elsewhere. Here the gain and the drain are the same event, so a stalled board where neither side wants to commit quietly tilts in your favor whenever the opponent's clock forces them to swing into your half of the board. It does nothing on offense (Defender sees to that), costs nothing to maintain, and only matters once an attacker comes in and you choose to throw this in front of it. That makes it less a defensive tax than a trap: the attacker pays both ways the moment you block. It is built for the grindy, attrition-minded white-black shell that wants to survive into the long game and let an opponent's aggression fund its own life swing, a punisher disguised as a speed bump.
