Soul of Theros

The whole point of the Soul cycle was redundancy: a finisher that does its work whether it lands on the battlefield or rots in the graveyard. Mill it, discard it, sacrifice it, lose it in combat, and the second activation reads the same as the first, paying the same six mana to give your team +2/+2 plus first strike and lifelink until end of turn. That graveyard-exile clause is what separated these from ordinary anthem creatures: most overrun effects ask you to keep the source alive, while this one functions equally well as a card you would rather see in the bin. For a wide white board, the team pump is a genuine alpha-strike enabler, the lifelink swinging the math on a race even when the attack stalls behind a blocker. The cost is steep enough that the body, a 6/6 with vigilance, mostly serves as a stabilizing wall and a mana sink once you arrive: the activation price is so high that firing it even once is a real investment, and firing it twice in a turn asks for a heavily flooded board. The design tension sits between that premium activation cost and the safety net the graveyard mode provides: you are paying top rates for an effect that refuses to be answered by removal alone. It behaves less like a creature you protect than like a recurring sorcery wearing a 6/6 as a chassis.
