Sorceress Queen

Creature — Human Wizard Sorcerer1 generic manaBlack manaBlack mana

Tap to erase combat math, and to do it by rewriting rather than wounding. Setting a creature's base power and toughness to 0/2 (instead of dealing damage or shrinking by a fixed amount) sidesteps regeneration shields and damage prevention entirely: the target is not being damaged, it is being redefined. The two-toughness floor keeps the effect honest. It does not delete a blocker, it neutralizes one, turning a fat attacker into a body that walks into combat and can no longer crush a small defender. Point her at a creature before blockers and the threat arrives toothless; that floor of two toughness ensures the target survives to keep being inconvenient rather than dying outright. The 1/1 body for 1 generic manaBlack manaBlack mana is the price of admission; the queen was never meant to fight, she was meant to point (and as a black source she still respects protection from black, which her targeting cannot ignore). The era's vocabulary around her has not aged well: "base power and toughness" was a new enough phrase that early rulings had to clarify how it stacked with auras and counters, and that interaction shaped how later sets worded similar effects. What she founds is a different template from the tap-to-destroy assassins like Royal Assassin: not a creature that kills the target, but one that rewrites what the target is in combat.
