Solar Tide

Most board wipes treat the battlefield as one undifferentiated mass; this one draws a line through it at the power-2/power-3 boundary and lets the caster decide which side of the line survives. Set it low and your fatties walk away while the opponent's tokens and dorks vanish; set it high and your mana creatures keep producing while their threats fall. The mode you pick is dictated by your own board, which turns a symmetrical sweeper into a deliberately lopsided one: a deck built around a single power band wants exactly one of the two halves and gets to keep everything it cares about. The entwine cost is the release valve for when neither cut is clean. Sacrificing two lands buys both modes at once (total annihilation), but the price is a permanent dent in your mana rather than a one-time tempo hit, so reaching for it is a concession, not a default. Six is already steep for a wrath, and the land tax compounds that, so the card pays out best when you have arranged a board that only ever needs one half. It comes from an early-era artifact block where entwine handed sorceries a pay-more-do-both lever, and among those it is the unusual case where the better play is often the cheaper one: cast it modally, pick your half, and let the asymmetry do what raw symmetry cannot.
