Sokka's Haiku

Instant — Lesson3 generic manaBlue manaBlue mana

Three effects stapled together, and the seams show on purpose. A hard counter at five mana is deliberately overpriced against the two-mana benchmark these effects were built on; the surrounding text is what pays the difference. You counter the spell, replace the card in hand, feed three to the graveyard, and untap a land, which means the interaction does not cost you a full turn's tempo the way a naked counter at this rate would. That land recovery is the tell: it refunds a chunk of the mana you sank, so the card behaves less like a Cancel with riders and more like a value node that happens to counter something. The mill three is the wrinkle worth watching, because it points the card at two different owners at once (a control shell treating it as a draw-and-dig closer nearer to Fact or Fiction, and a graveyard deck that wants those three cards binned as a feature rather than a cost). Being a Lesson lets it be fetched by the learn mechanic on top of casting it normally in any blue deck, and that flexibility is worth weighing against a five-mana do-everything instant becoming an automatic include. It is a card that knows exactly how many jobs it is doing and prices each one honestly.
