The seven printed in the corner is a bluff. Affinity for artifacts means this Salamander rarely costs anything near its face value, and among the artifact lands that gave affinity its foundation, a 4/4 that lands for two or three mana is a body those linear decks have always wanted and rarely gotten at a resilient size. But the more interesting half is the artifact landcycling clause, because it answers the archetype's oldest structural weakness: hands with the payoffs but not the lands, or the lands but nothing to spend them on. Draw it early and it converts into a land, tutoring one of the artifact lands directly into hand to grow every subsequent affinity count. Draw it late, when the board is already assembled, and it becomes a hard-to-kill threat the same land count paid for. That dual mode is the whole point: a single card that resolves the question "what do I do with this in the wrong half of the game" by being playable in both halves. Most affinity enablers pick a lane, cheap beater or land-fixing, and this one refuses. The design lets a linear artifact deck run fewer dead cards without thinning its threat density, a subtler contribution to that archetype's consistency than the flashy cheap-4/4 headline suggests.
