Sleeper's Guile

Enchantment — Aura2 generic manaBlack mana

The self-recursion is what the whole card is built around, and it answers a problem evasion auras have always had: the two-for-one. Most auras of this kind live in fear of removal and bounce, because killing the creature eats your card alongside it. This one shrugs that off by returning to your hand whenever it goes to the graveyard from the battlefield, so the only way to permanently strip the evasion is to exile it or strand it in hand. The aura grants fear, the older keyword that asks an opponent to find a black or artifact creature to block, and welding that to a recursion clause converts a fragile combat upgrade into a reusable threat you re-deploy onto whatever survives the last sweep. The discipline that keeps the package honest is the re-cast cost: you pay full price every time it comes back, so the engine bleeds tempo rather than cards, trading speed for resilience in a way black aggressive shells of its era were glad to make. It sits among the "sticky" auras that refuse to die for value, a niche black has returned to whenever it wants an evasion source that outlasts attrition rather than one that closes the game in a hurry.
