Skyshroud Forest

Land

A first attempt at squaring the painland math with the original dual-land model, and the result is a strange hybrid that never quite committed to either. Where the original ABU duals tapped for two colors with no downside, and the later Apocalypse painlands (Caves of Koilos and friends) made you pay a life every time you wanted color, this splits the difference and then adds a third tax: it enters tapped, so the very first turn it produces nothing. The colorless option exists as the escape hatch, the way to fetch mana without bleeding life, but the design asks you to weigh that tempo loss against the painland's per-tap cost on every single activation. That three-way friction (enter tapped, take damage for color, or settle for colorless) is what makes it land softer than its later cousins. The painlands kept the on-curve speed and charged life as the only price; this one charges both. It belongs to the long arc of two-color fixing Wizards has been recalibrating since the start, an early data point in the search for how much a dual should cost when the answer wasn't yet "nothing, here's a fetchland." The color pair itself (green and blue) was never a workhorse archetype the way the enemy painlands were, which is part of why this iteration stayed a footnote rather than a template.
