Skyline Predator

Creature — Drake4 generic manaBlue manaBlue mana

Flash is the entire conceit, and the body is just the bait. A 3/4 flier for six mana would be embarrassing on your own turn, but you never cast it on your own turn: you hold the mana up, represent a counterspell or an instant-speed answer, and if the opponent plays around the interaction and passes, you drop the Drake on their end step and untap into an evasive clock. The toughness is the quiet load-bearing number. Four survives the most common burn and trades up into most attacking fliers, so the ambush isn't a one-for-one chump but a creature that sticks and keeps swinging. This is blue's old workaround for owning no instant-speed removal of its own: rather than kill the attacker, flash in a wall with wings and let combat math sort out the rest. The lineage runs back through every fat ambush flier blue has printed, each one selling the same trade of tempo for information. Every turn the mana sits untapped is a turn the opponent has to respect interaction that might just be a Drake, and that ambiguity is half the value. What you pay for is the bluff itself: a stretch of open mana to keep someone guessing, with a real threat waiting if they guess wrong.
