Skull Storm

Sorcery7 generic manaBlack manaBlack mana

The payoff scales off a number you can't build for directly: the copy count reads how many times you've cast your general from the command zone, so the spell's ceiling was written across the twenty turns of accumulated tax that preceded it rather than into the card in front of you. Recast your commander five times and this resolves as six edicts in sequence, each followed by a life-halving for anyone who has run out of creatures to feed it. That two-stage structure is what turns a single sacrifice into a kill: the edicts strip boards down to nothing first, then the halving punishes every opponent who has already been emptied, rounding up so it bites. The whole engine assumes a particular table, one where the commander is a recursion or reanimation piece that wants to die and return anyway, because the trigger effectively taxes how central that general has been to the game. Left in a deck that treats its commander as a curiosity, this is nine mana for one edict and nothing else, the honest floor of a design whose value lives entirely in a counter you accumulate off-card. It sits alongside the top-end finishers that reward command-zone recursion instead of raw mana investment, demanding that the deck earn its power over a full game before the spell ever reaches the stack.
