Skull Fracture

SorceryBlack mana

Targeted discard with a built-in second use, paid for the only way an early-era flashback discard could justify its back end: by handing the choice to the victim instead of the caster. It belongs to the family of "target player discards a card" effects, the cautious dialect where the opponent sheds whatever they value least, which is the weakest form of hand disruption there is. That concession is exactly what licenses the rate. A single black mana for "pick your worst card to lose" is cheap because the victim controls the outcome, and the four-mana flashback is worth keeping on the table for the same reason: the back end is never going to peel a card they wanted to keep, so the cost stays bounded the one time it returns. What it buys is not precision but a second swing. Cast it to chip a card, then crawl back from the graveyard once to chip another before the exile clause closes the door for good. Two strips, both surrendering control of what actually leaves the hand. The design reads as the line you can print at a single mana and safely give recursion to, precisely because ceding the target's choice caps the ceiling. It is the structural opposite of a precision strip like Thoughtseize, which pays full price up front to pull the exact card you fear. Here the power lives in the repeat, and the price of that repeat is never knowing what you took.
