Bloodrush answers an old aggro tension: the dead late-game body. A 2/1 Goblin for two mana is a fine early threat and a wasted draw by turn six, when you would rather have reach or a finisher. The discard ability lets that same card cash itself in as a combat trick instead, turning a creature you no longer want to cast into +2/+1 thrown onto an attacker for a single red. The flexibility runs one direction only: a copy is either a body or a pump, never both, and choosing one mode spends the other. The card never reaches the battlefield when used this way, so its whole value lives in the decision of when to discard it rather than cast it. It does not insulate you from a 2-for-1, though: if removal answers the attacker in response to the activation, the creature dies and the discarded card is gone too, the same blowout any pump spell eats. The +2/+1 split is the other piece worth noting; the extra toughness lets an attacker survive a block or a point of damage that a flat +X/+0 would not cover, widening the range of combats it can win. This is the plainest member of a small cycle that asked aggressive red and its allied colors to treat their creatures as live spells deep into a game, smoothing the curve at both ends so that no draw is ever fully dead.
