Pay full price and you hold a four-mana Fog that only covers your creatures, a rate nobody runs by choice. The card was never meant to be paid for. Its title legend is decoration; the engineering lives in the land condition, a piece of color-pair hatred from an era that loaded sideboard answers directly into the maindeck. White's reward for facing red is spelled out in the geography: opponent has a Mountain, you control a Plains, and the spell costs nothing. Against the aggressive red decks of its day, that meant blanking an alpha strike for free, or shrugging off an Earthquake-style sweeper aimed at your board. The conditional inverts the usual discount logic. Most cheap interaction lowers the floor so you can play it proactively against anyone; this one stays expensive everywhere except the exact matchup it was built to punish, where it drops to zero. The damage-prevention is fenced to creatures you control on purpose: your life total is still exposed, so it stonewalls combat math without becoming a blanket save against a burn finish. The result is a card that sits dead against most of the field and turns backbreaking against one specific enemy, with no deckbuilding cost beyond running the white land you were already running. A snapshot of a design philosophy that has mostly disappeared: answers that asked nothing of your sixty until the right opponent sat down across from you.
