Threshold is a graveyard-fueling mechanic, and most cards that carried it in its home block were cheap spells that wanted you mining your own library: cycling, flashback, dredge-adjacent loops that filled the bin fast. Stapling that condition to an eight-mana flier inverts the deal. By the time you can cast a 6/6 Angel, your graveyard is almost always already past seven cards, so the anthem here is less a payoff you build toward and more a tax that comes due on arrival: a board-wide +2/+2 that turns a finisher into a closer. The cost line is the tension. Triple white at the top of the curve asks for a heavily white deck, but a wide white board is exactly what makes a static team-pump worth eight mana rather than a redundant overcommitment. The flying body protects the engine: the Angel itself stays out of range of the ground stall the anthem is built to break open. What it represents is a particular era's willingness to gate a beefy curve-topper behind a condition it would meet anyway, trusting the mana investment to do the balancing rather than the threshold itself. As a design, the threshold clause reads less as a restriction than as flavor: an Angel whose presence empowers the army only once the war has left enough dead behind.
