Sick and Tired

Instant2 generic manaBlack mana

Splitting a shrink effect across two bodies sounds like flexibility, but the catch is in the wording: the two points cannot be combined onto one threat. That single restriction defines everything the card is and is not. Single-target shrink spells trade one card for one creature; this one divides its -1/-1 in two, which means it earns its keep only against boards built on a single axis: token swarms, x/1 utility creatures, anything that folds to one point of toughness loss. It kills nothing with two or more toughness, paying full price for a limitation that narrows its targets to the smallest creatures on the table. The instant timing is where it justifies the cost. Held until the declare-blockers step, it can shrink a blocked attacker into a worse trade while clipping a separate creature elsewhere, or ambush two attackers in the same combat, turning one card into a two-for-one when the math lines up. That is the window the card lives in, and it is narrow. The effect reads as a combat-math tool rather than a removal staple, which is why it has stayed a footnote: the payoff only arrives when the opposing board is already wide and toughness-1, and against that exact board there are usually cleaner sweepers.
