Shunt

Instant1 generic manaRed manaRed mana

Redirection is one of red's oldest tricks, and this is the cleaner, more disciplined version of it. The single-target restriction is the entire design: it carves out exactly the spells that can be unambiguously rerouted (a burn spell, a counterspell, a pinpoint removal piece, an aura) and leaves anything with multiple or no targets alone, where reassignment would have no clean answer. Catching a spell on the stack, it does not copy or counter anything; it simply hands the spell a new destination while the original caster keeps paying the cost and still loses the card. An opponent's removal becomes your removal. A counterspell can be aimed at one of their own spells already sitting beneath it on the stack. A pump aura lands on your attacker instead of theirs. The effect is identical in wording to Misdirection, which does the same work in blue at a steeper-feeling cost, and the two are functionally siblings rather than rivals. What separates this card from a maindeck staple is not its rate but its dependence on the opponent: with nothing single-targeted pointed at anything, it is dead in hand. It asks to be held, sometimes for several turns, until the right spell appears on the stack, and that patience tax, more than the three mana, is why it has always lived in the reactive margins rather than the core of a deck.
