Shore Keeper

Creature — TrilobiteBlue mana

A wall now, a windfall much, much later: the 0/3 body buys early-game time against aggression for a single blue mana, and the payoff buried under eight total mana asks you to survive long enough to cash it in. That gulf between the two roles is the whole design. The trilobite is a blocker first and a delayed windfall second, and the cost of admission is the wait in between. Three cards for eight mana is a fine return in a grindy, attrition-shaped game, and because the ability taps and sacrifices the creature, it converts a stalled board into raw resources once the floor has been reached: a net two-card swing that trades a body you were only using to block into a full refuel. The friction is timing, not payoff. The three toughness earns its keep from turn one, absorbing early attackers, but the card does nothing toward your hand until you can afford the activation, so it demands a game slow enough that a one-drop can still matter on the turn you finally untap with eight mana. Note the shape of that reward, too: a fixed three cards, no scaling, so it is a plateau you reach rather than an engine that compounds. The creature type is flavor scaffolding; what matters is a design that lets the same permanent shore up the opening turns and still earn its place in the fortieth minute of a game that goes nowhere fast.
