Shivan Raptor

Creature — Dinosaur2 generic manaRed mana

A creature built to be spent, not kept. The 3/1 first striker swings the moment it arrives, kills 2/2 and 3/3 blockers without taking a scratch, and then the upkeep clause arrives with the bill. Pay the echo cost (another 2 generic manaRed mana, the same price you already paid, charging full freight twice for a body a single point of damage erases) or let it slide and pocket the one big swing it already delivered. That second option is usually the real plan. Echo, in this early era of front-loaded creatures, priced the first turn cheap and collected the remainder on the next upkeep; on a fragile aggressor the remainder is a payment the controller never intended to make. The clause functions less as a tax than as a timer: a creature you race to extract value from before it sacrifices itself. First strike does the offensive work, letting the 3/1 trade up and walk away during the lone turn it matters, while haste guarantees the hit lands before the upkeep ever comes due. Everything about the package points toward a single combat step and an exit, a deliberate exercise in pricing one good attack and trusting the controller to skip the rest.
