Shifting Shadow

A slot machine dressed as removal insurance. The self-destruct clause is the engine: on your upkeep the enchanted creature dies, and Shifting Shadow rummages through your library until it hits a creature, drops that one into play with haste, and reattaches itself. The design turns the Aura's usual liability into an asset. Auras eat two-for-ones when the creature they sit on gets killed, but here the creature was going to die on your next upkeep anyway, so the scheduled dig softens the sting rather than adding to it. That reframes the risk profile of the card type, though an opponent who kills the creature before your upkeep still leaves you with a plain two-for-one and no replacement. What pays for it is randomness and loss of choice: you get whatever creature sits nearest the top of your deck, and everything above it goes to the bottom in random order, so the reward scales with how top-heavy your creature base is. Stack the deck with expensive bombs and every upkeep is a discounted cheat into a fatty with haste; run a normal curve and you are as likely to flip a mana dork. The haste grant matters more than it looks, because each creature the Shadow lands on will be destroyed before it can attack again, making immediate impact the only impact you reliably get. It is a build-around that punishes a balanced list and rewards deliberate imbalance.
