Shield of the Righteous
Most defensive equipment stops at toughness and maybe a keyword; this one weaponizes the act of blocking itself. The +0/+2 and vigilance turn the bearer into a perpetual wall that never has to choose between attacking and holding the line, but the real teeth are in the block trigger: whatever the equipped creature stops stays tapped through its controller's next untap step. That converts a single blocker into a recurring tax on the opponent's offense, gradually pulling attackers out of rotation while your creature absorbs the hits and survives. It is a fundamentally grindy, white-blue design idea: rather than killing the threat, it benches it, and over several turns a board of would-be attackers thins itself out one stuck creature at a time. The cost structure is honest about the slow burn it asks for: cheap to cast, modestly priced to equip, and entirely passive until combat happens on the opponent's terms. The vigilance is the connective tissue here, because it lets the same creature that blocked and tapped down an attacker turn around and pressure on your own turn without surrendering the defensive role. As a piece of grind-engine equipment, it rewards patience over tempo and attrition over the swing, the clock-running, opponent-denying axis the white-blue color pair has always been built to occupy.
