Shameless Charlatan
Where most of the Background cycle hands your commander a keyword or a stat bump, this one bolts a repeatable clone button onto the commander creatures you own, turning each of them into a shapeshifter for a fixed activation. The strategic axis is board reading rather than build-around: nothing about the graveyard, nothing about a combo line, just the recurring question of which body on the table is worth wearing this turn. Copy an opponent's threat to flatten a lopsided board, match the biggest attacker to trade up in combat, then activate again next turn to become something else. Because the copy does not re-enter the battlefield, it triggers no enters-the-battlefield abilities; what it captures is the target's copiable characteristics, including its printed stats, static, activated, and other triggered abilities, and any keywords baked into them. That can help dodge removal too, whether by gaining protection, hexproof, or indestructible, or simply by changing the stats or characteristics the removal cares about. Like every copy effect, it wears off the moment the creature changes zones, so a commander that leaves play returns as itself. The scope is narrower than it looks: the ability rides on commander creatures specifically, not on every legend you control, so in most builds it lives on one commander (or two, in a partner pairing) rather than fanning out across a board of legendaries. Where it earns its slot is decks running multiple commanders, each free to chase its own best available shell.
