Sewer Shambler
Scavenge was the graveyard mechanic built around a single clean promise: a creature that dies in combat or trade comes back as a permanent power boost, paying its full cost a second time to do so. This is one of the literal commons that taught the keyword. The 2/1 body is fragile by design, expendable enough to throw into the red zone early, and the swampwalk gives it a low-grade evasion clause that only matters against the very players most likely to have the Swamps for it to walk past. The real reason to run it is the back half: once it hits the graveyard, the two power it carried becomes two +1/+1 counters bolted onto something that survives, and because scavenge exiles the card as part of its cost, the counters stick where graveyard recursion does not. The tension that holds the rate together is that it costs the same mana twice and only ever pays out once: three to cast it, then three more to scavenge it, and that exile means there is no looping it back for a third turn of value. This is the unglamorous worker a mechanic needs to function at common, the floor against which the rares were measured rather than a card with ambitions of its own.
