Settle the Wreckage
White's mass removal has always demanded a tradeoff, and this one relocates it in an unusual direction: the caster pays a clean four mana for an unconditional exile, while the compensation flows to the opponent as ramp. You are not paying a higher rate or accepting a symmetric wipe; you are handing the sweep's victim a fistful of basic lands to soften what would otherwise be an uncontested blowout. Whether that gift matters depends entirely on how much the opponent overcommitted. Alpha-strike into open white mana and lose six creatures for a few tapped lands (which also thin the deck, sharpening later draws), and the trade is catastrophic in the caster's favor. Attack with one creature and it still resolves: one exiled attacker, one land, a fair-to-lousy rate a careful opponent can exploit deliberately to fix mana or bait the answer out. That conditionality reframes the card as a punishment rather than a reset button. It rewards reading the board over raw efficiency, doing its best work against the player who commits to combat without respecting open mana and folding harmlessly against the one who holds back. The exile clause carries the rest of the load: sidestepping the graveyard shuts off the recursion and death triggers that a destruction-based or damage-based sweep would happily fuel.
