Serpent's Soul-Jar

Artifact2 generic manaBlack mana

A recursion engine narrow enough that it only functions inside one tribe, and that narrowness is the whole design conceit. Rather than a graveyard that any color can pillage, this converts dead Elves into a private exile pile you draw creature spells from, one activation at a time, at the cost of both a tap and a life payment. The tap gives it a natural throttle: it can only feed you one turn's worth of recasts, so a board wipe does not simply refill your hand, it stocks a reservoir you meter out over subsequent turns. The life cost frames the interaction as a Golgari-style trade, paying vitality to keep bodies coming back, which is what pushes an Elf deck from a snowballing curve into a grindier attrition posture. What makes it more than a value trinket is the interception itself: because it exiles rather than reanimates, it doubles as protection against opposing graveyard hate and reanimation, quietly denying your dead Elves to anyone else while reserving them for you. It belongs to the family of tribal-payoff artifacts that ask you to commit hard to one creature type before they do anything, offering nothing to a deck that is not already flooded with Elves and everything to one that is.
