That feedback loop is the difference between this and a flat token-maker, and it makes the card emblematic of an early Selesnya identity built around going wide rather than tall. The body is fragile, but the ability fires at instant speed, which gives the manual conversion its one moment of tactical grace: you can hold the Saprolings back as blockers and only cash them in for new bodies at the end of the opponent's turn, so the tax on your defense never costs you a beat. The catch is the ratio. One mana plus two creatures tapped for a single new 1/1 is a deliberately slow trade, the kind that only pays off in a deck already built to swarm the ground. It is less a payoff than a primitive: an early statement of what the guild does, gesturing at the "tap your guys, get more guys" texture that later keywords would formalize, while leaning on sacrifice outlets, anthems, or token-doubling effects elsewhere in the build to turn a pile of 1/1s into a clock.
