Selective Memory

Sorcery3 generic manaBlue mana

The rare card whose ceiling is also its trap: it lets you exile any number of nonland cards from your library, which reads like raw card disadvantage until you flip the framing. The win condition it was built around is decking, specifically the kind of self-mill or library-emptying combo that wants to compress a deck to a known, hostile-card-free pile. Strip out everything that isn't the engine, and you turn a sixty-card variance machine into a tightly narrowed pile. The catch is that it only touches nonland cards, so your lands stay put and your draws after the search are pure topdeck math, which is exactly the problem most builds can't solve cleanly. Functionally it sits in the same odd niche as Demonic Consultation and Tainted Pact, cards that interrogate your own library and accept the loss to find one answer, except this one doesn't fail-state into death the way Consultation can; it simply removes options. That distinction kept it off the tournament radar and parked it instead as a combo curiosity: a card that asks you to know precisely what's left in your deck and to want fewer of it, which is a far stranger deckbuilding demand than its plain blue-sorcery frame suggests.
