The eight +1/+1 counters it enters with are doing double duty: they are the only thing keeping a printed 0/0 alive past resolution, and they are the ammunition for everything that follows. The engine lives in the second line, where damage stops reducing this creature and starts converting it. Every point of damage peels off a counter and mints an equal pile of 1/1 Spirit tokens, so a swing meant to remove it instead atomizes it into a swarm. The design turns combat math inside out: attacking into it gives you fodder, blocking it gives you fodder, burning it gives you fodder. Then the third line closes the loop. Sacrifice eight Spirits to return it from the graveyard, the exact denomination it manufactures when it takes lethal. The card eats damage, becomes Spirits, dies, and resurrects itself by consuming the Spirits it became. That recursion is the tension the design resolves: a creature this easy to "kill" should be a liability, but the kill is the cost of its own return, and a board already drowning in 1/1s is one sacrifice away from doing it all again. The arithmetic is unusually demanding for a top-end green creature, which is exactly why it reads as a puzzle rather than a payoff: it asks you to treat damage as currency and tokens as the bank.
