Punishing an opponent for attacking is white's oldest defensive posture, but the payoff has usually been reactive: a Ghostly Prison tax, a Propaganda toll, a fog that resets the board. This flips the incentive. The trigger fires whenever a creature swings at you or a planeswalker you control, so every attack hands you a Clue, turning the opponent's aggression into fuel rather than pressure. Go-wide defense and card advantage rarely lived in the same slot: a controller who stalls the board still has to find gas somewhere, and this enchantment makes the stall itself the gas. Nothing about it stops the attack, which is the honest cost; the ability doesn't care whether the creature connects, so a wide swing from a token deck can bury you in Clues while it also buries your life total. Those two clocks running in opposite directions define the whole calculus. It rewards a defensive shell that can survive the incoming damage long enough to cash the Clues into a game-winning hand, and it punishes decks built to race rather than grind. As a per-attack engine that scales with the opponent's board rather than your own, it belongs to a specific lineage of white "make them regret attacking" enchantments, but where its predecessors imposed a one-time deterrent, this one converts each declared attack into a renewable draw step.
