Most life-loss effects scale off the attacker's power; this one ignores the body entirely and shears away a fraction of whatever total remains, rounded up. That halving is what makes it ugly. A player who starts at forty and takes one connection drops to nineteen (one from combat damage, then half of the remainder), and the next hit takes them to nine, then four, then one. Three or four clean swings close out a game that opened with a deceptively generous life cushion, no matter how small the carrier is. The +1/+1 is incidental, and so is the creature wearing it, which is precisely the point of living weapon: the equipment arrives with its own 0/0 Germ to carry the trigger, so the percentage clock can start without a separate body to suit up. The threat is the trigger, not the attacker. Its only brake is tempo: five to deploy, three to redeploy if the carrier dies, and the ability fires only on combat damage to a player, so chump-blocks and deathtouch deterrents buy real time. What is genuinely nasty is how it inverts the standard defense against a beatdown plan. The usual counter to a big creature is to race the life total and stay out of burst range; against halving, a high life total is a liability rather than a buffer, because every cut is larger the further you sit from zero.
