The cantripping aura is black's longstanding compromise with its own card-disadvantage problem. Enchanting a creature trades a card for a buff, the two-for-one black hates being on the wrong side of; bolt the host in response and you have spent two cards to draw none. The fix here is the enters trigger that refunds the card the moment the aura resolves, so even if the creature dies the next turn, you have broken even rather than fallen behind. That refund changes what the aura is for: the +1/+0 is almost incidental, a small nudge to push a swing or trade up in combat, while the real job is keeping the deck's card count flat as you advance the board. The effect pairs naturally with anything caring about enchantments entering or cheap permanents hitting the battlefield, but the design's center of gravity is the simplest read possible: a marginal pump that costs you no cards to play. That makes it the floor case for evaluating auras in a heroic or enchantment-matters shell, the baseline you check the flashier ones against.
