Sanctum of Shattered Heights

The red Shrine converts the tribe's accumulating count into aimed damage, and it does so from hand rather than from the board: the activation asks you to discard a land or a Shrine card as fuel, not sacrifice one in play, so every shot leaves your count intact. That distinction is the design's whole engine. X scales with the Shrines you control, which means the ability grows for free as the shell develops while the cost stays a single mana plus a card. A land is the cheapest thing to feed it, and only when you run dry do you start pitching Shrines from hand, trading a future permanent for immediate removal without ever weakening the damage output already on the table. On its own, with no other Shrines, X is 1: a slow, mana-and-card-hungry way to ping something for a single point. The payoff comes from density, where a board of accumulated Shrines turns each activation into real removal that can also point at planeswalkers, giving an otherwise passive enchantment deck a way to interact that its shell would not otherwise supply. Alongside Honden of Infinite Rage, which pings each upkeep, this is the Shrine that makes the tribe's count aggressive on demand rather than on a clock: the difference between a value pile that draws and drains and one that can actually close by pointing its own size at whatever needs to die.
