Damage prevention in white usually scales with a single body's toughness or asks for repeated mana over many turns; this one waits on the battlefield as a 1/1 until you decide to convert it into a one-time team shield. The sacrifice is the whole transaction: you spend the creature and a second white mana to buy every creature you control a single point of prevention for the turn. That makes it a deliberately small, surgical effect rather than a fog. Against a board-wide one-damage burst (a pinger sweep, a coordinated ping, an X-damage trickle), it can blank an entire wave; against anything bigger it only chips the edge off. The math rewards going wide with fragile bodies, where saving one toughness across a crowd of 1/1s and 2/2s preserves more total board than a single targeted prevention spell ever could. It is a piece of design built around the gap between "prevent damage to one creature" and "prevent the next instance of damage to all of them," and it pays for that breadth by holding the cost in reserve: the protection is a one-shot the moment you cash the body in, and it expires at end of turn. The Cleric typeline and the modest body point at the kind of soft, attrition-resistant white that values keeping creatures alive over trading up, the same instinct that animates lifegain and prevention shells where the goal is to outlast rather than overpower.
