Ruination

Sorcery3 generic manaRed mana

A punishment for greed, aimed squarely at the manabase that wants to do too much. The design logic is the basic/nonbasic split: every dual land, every painland, every utility land, every fetchable nonbasic gets swept, while a deck disciplined enough to run mostly basics walks away untouched. That asymmetry is the whole card. It rewards the mono-color or two-color build that pays for its consistency in flexibility and taxes the greedy multicolor pile that pays for its flexibility in resilience. Where a board wipe answers what an opponent committed to the battlefield, this answers what they committed to before the game started, the deckbuilding decision baked into their land slots, which is a harder thing to play around once the spell resolves. The line between fair and brutal is drawn entirely by how many basics sit across the table; against a two-color enemy leaning on duals it can be a one-sided land destruction spell, and against a heavy basics build it does close to nothing. It belongs to the family of red mass land destruction that asks an opponent to have built honestly, alongside effects like Armageddon and Wildfire, but it is the most surgical of them: it never touches a basic Mountain, Plains, or Forest, only the convenience that nonbasics represent. The card has no rate problem and no timing trick; it is a referendum on how much the table cheated on its mana.
