Rubblebelt Maaka

Creature — Cat3 generic manaRed mana

Bloodrush is the cleanest answer to the worst problem creatures have: they sit useless in hand when the board is already stalled, and they get blanked the moment they walk into a removal spell or a chump block. This Cat solves both at once by being two cards in one slot. Cast it and you get a 3/3 body; discard it from hand and you get a combat trick that adds the same +3/+3 it would have put on the board, with the discard cost itself dodging counterspells and giving an opponent no permanent to kill. The math is the elegant part: the pump exactly mirrors the creature's stats, so the keyword reads as a literal conversion of the body into damage rather than an arbitrary bonus. The friction is that you only get one mode per copy and the trick demands an attacker already in combat, so the card rewards holding it until the swing connects rather than slamming it on curve. As a design idea, it is the rare combat trick that never feels like a dead draw, because the fallback is always a fair creature. That hedge against situational uselessness is why this style of dual-purpose card has aged better than the straight pump spells it competes with.
